Patent Licensing Support.
In Japan, a country built on intellectual property, various patent licensing measures are deployed at the initiative of the government.
Technology Licensing Organizations (TLOs) are established in major universities and research organizations, and patent licensing
advisors are assigned throughout the nation to aggressively promote technology transfer and patent licensing between industry,
government, and academia.
Japan is second only to the U.S. in the number of international patents obtained, making it truly worthy of being known as “a country
built on intellectual property.” However, it is has been pointed out that the overall patent business in Japan is suffering from a
significant decrease in activity.
Large companies often apply for cross-licensing patents to counter patent attacks from abroad. Universities and research organizations
apply for patents because their research tends to be evaluated based on the number of international patents applied.
The time has come for Japanese patent owners to take another look at their unused international patents, which up to now have just been
considered “to provide insurance and honor,” and recognize their patent’s worth as a unique proprietary product than can produce profits.
Recently, the globalization of patents has been rapidly progressing. The U.S. patent system has adopted the first-to-file principle,
and patent application practices have been consolidated in Europe. Even historically hesitant China seems to have joined the bandwagon.
With the setting for international patent licensing taking shape in this way, technology transfer to overseas is increasingly gathering momentum.
With trusted patent licensing partners in the U.S. and Europe, Executive Consulting starts our international patent licensing support
services in cooperation with experienced patent agents and attorneys.
If you are considering licensing international patents owned by your corporations, research organizations, and universities, please give
